Lanai and pool cage glass care
Quick answer: the glass inside a lanai or pool enclosure hazes faster than any other glass in the house because the enclosure traps humidity, pool chemicals in the air, pollen and sprinkler overspray. It needs a proper scrub and squeegee, not a hose, and it's the glass most worth putting on a regular schedule.
Why lanai glass is different
The enclosure keeps bugs out and moisture in. Humid air sits against the sliders and the enclosure's own glass panels. Pool chemicals evaporate and leave a film. Pollen blows in and can't blow out. Sprinklers on the lanai side spot the lower glass. The result is a haze that regular spray-and-wipe just moves around.
How it's cleaned
Scrub with a strip washer to lift the film, squeegee, detail the edges, and wipe the sills and the slider track. Enclosure glass panels are done on both sides where they can be reached safely. Any mineral spotting from sprinklers is treated with restoration compound.
How often
Quarterly for most homes with a pool. Twice a year at minimum. Sliders you use daily benefit from an interior wipe between professional cleans.
What not to do
Don't pressure wash the enclosure with the glass in it; it can blow out panels and force water into slider frames. Don't wipe dry pollen or salt; it scratches.
Enclosure panels vs. sliders
The sliders are the glass between the house and the lanai; the enclosure panels are the glass or acrylic sections built into the cage itself on some homes. Sliders get the full inside-and-out method. Enclosure panels are cleaned on the sides that can be reached safely from the lanai and the yard, and they're the panels most likely to haze from pool chemicals because they're closest to the water.

Is lanai glass included in a window cleaning?
Yes. Sliders, lanai and pool enclosure glass are part of every Royal Window Shine home clean.
Why is my lanai glass hazy even after I hose it?
Hosing doesn't lift the film of humidity, pool chemicals and pollen. It needs a scrub and a squeegee.
