Holiday storefront glass prep

Quick answer: clean the glass before the holiday display goes in, not after. Then keep a weekly route through December so fingerprints and rain spots don't undo the display. Residue from last year's decals and tape comes off in the same visit.

Sequence

Take down last season's leftovers, have the glass cleaned inside and out (including adhesive residue from old decals, tape and window paint), then install the display and lights. Cleaning after the display is in means working around it and missing spots.

Through the season

December is the highest foot-traffic month for downtown Stuart, Jensen Beach, Fort Pierce and Vero. Doors and low glass get touched constantly. A weekly route keeps the front clean; biweekly is the minimum for a shop that cares how it looks.

Window paint and decals

Water-based window paint comes off with a scrub and squeegee. Vinyl decals leave adhesive that needs a solvent and careful removal so the glass isn't scratched. Tell us what's on the glass and we'll bring the right thing.

After the holidays

One more clean in January to remove decals, paint and tape and start the year with clear glass.

Lights on the glass

String lights taped to the inside of a storefront window leave adhesive lines that bake on under December sun. Use removable mounting clips or suction hooks instead of tape, and let us know before the January clean if tape was used so we bring solvent. Snow spray and window paint should be water-based; oil-based versions require solvent removal and can leave a ghost image on older glass.
